Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. (Matthew 19:14).
Somebody Cares Saint Augustine believes that it is our mission to support those kids in our county who are most in need. Below is a list of current efforts that we are involved in and support.

St. Johns County School District

Since 2011 Somebody Cares 4 Kids (SC 4 Kids) has partnered with St. Johns County School District to provide for homeless students as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Every month during the school year we meet with the A.S.S.I.S.T. program director who communicates to us the needs of their homeless  students. Items such as school supplies, gas cards, clothes, and computers are examples of what we provide. In addition, we choose two students to receive scholarships each year. These students, if they continue through school, will get an additional scholarship each year for up to 3 more years.

We meet with the School District Administration monthly throughout the school year to provide resources for individual schools identified by the administration as needing assistance with items such as school supplies, clothing, and food.

Coats for Kids

Somebody Cares St. Augustine works with area churches and organizations, such as Knights of Columbus, to collect new winter jackets for homeless students in all St. John’s County Schools identified as in need. In 2023, over 300 coats were provided to elementary, middle, and high school kids.

Evelyn Hamblen Center

In 2023, Somebody Cares St. Augustine started supporting the Evelyn Hamblen Center and Gaines Alternative School in St. Augustine. The center supports public students that have had significant Student Code of Conduct violations. They emphasize behavioral interventions and management with their students. Their work is particularly stressful, and when we reached out to offer them our support, they advised that in addition to the needs of their students, employee morale was a very big issue. Knowing this, SCSA provides supplies for students and support for school staff.

Private Schools

In 2023 SCSA worked with Veritas Classical School to help provide an opportunity for the students and their parents to show the love of Christ and be a blessing to their community. Last year they painted the house of a retired school teacher in Lincolnville. This community service effort with Veritas is now an annual event.

Other Children's Support Efforts

Other local agencies, such as Epic BH, reach out to us for support with at risk kids that they are working with that have specific needs. We provided the bicycle in the photo for one of those at risk kids.
